WASP Studios is delighted to announce its participation in the 4th edition of the VENERE IN TEATRO Dance Festival, Goccia a Goccia, with the collective performance Scenes of (R)evolution, showcasing artists Flavia Giurgiu, Alina Petrică, and Pedro Aurelian Gafei under the artistic direction of Andreea Căpitănescu. The performance will take place on Saturday, September 21, 2024, starting at 9:00 PM at the C32 Performing Art Workspace in Venice Mestre, Forte Marghera.
The performance presents three solo moments dedicated to themes of identity, self-discovery, memory, and emotional intimacy. It combines elements of personal narrative, dance, and the psychological depth of memory to invite audiences into a collective transformative experience.
Venere in Teatro is a contemporary dance festival organized by LiveArtsCultures at their unique location—the former military fort Forte Marghera in Mestre. Scheduled from September 10-22, 2024, the festival references the theater as a place of life, interpreted through the language of dance. The fourth edition of Venere embraces the theme of time as a thematic framework that unites various performances, revealing aspects such as myth, ritual, matter, transformation, mourning, birth, and rhythm. The year 2024 also marks the 10th anniversary of the association, a moment of reflection on the encounters and challenges faced throughout this journey of growth. Hence, “drop by drop” (Goccia a Goccia) becomes the motto for the 2024 edition.
The Scenes of (R)evolution project aims to increase the visibility of Romanian contemporary dance productions on the international stage and encourage collaboration with emerging artists and environments by adapting to current themes and practices. The project is based on a circular culture model to expand European dialogue, facilitating cultural exchanges and opportunities for artists and cultural operators, developing support networks, and providing the public with access to innovative artistic content.
Scenes of (R)evolution also featured the residency Instrumentalised Bodies at C32 Performing Art Workspace in July. A collaborative initiative organized byWASP Studios in partnership with LiveArtsCultures, the residency brought together a talented trio of artists: Flavia Giurgiu, Ida Malfatti, and Chiara Coccinello
Concert for Inverting Tongues_Study (Ida Malfatti, Flavia Giurgiu, Chiara Coccinello)
Through the exchange of ideas, practices, and discussions, the artists explored several research questions, focusing on working with their native languages—Italian and Romanian. They investigated the sonic and poetic possibilities of language, emphasizing phonemes as sound rather than meaning. This approach led to the formulation of key research questions: How does one teach or learn their mother tongue? What drives the evolution or revolution of a mother tongue? This initial phase was titled “Concert for Inverting Tongues_Study.” The concert format opened new avenues of research, both in terms of dramaturgy and sound exploration.
Inspired by the unique historical and architectural context of the space, their work culminated in a series of innovative and boundary-pushing performance pieces that redefined traditional artistic expression.
Scenes of (R)evolution is a project co-financed by the Romanian Cultural Institute (RCI) through the CANTEMIR Program, a funding program for cultural projects with an international focus.
