“Community in the time of division” presents to the public, between September 15 and October 4, 2022, at the headquarters of the Art Encounters Foundation in Timișoara, the exhibition “Community in Solitude”, curated by Andreea Căpitănescu, which includes works by Matei Bejenaru, Gabriela Mateescu, Andrei Mateescu, Liliana Mercioiu-Popa and Ghenadie Popescu, together with two young graduates of the West University of Timișoara, Ana Maria Szollosiand Natalia Silaghi.
In addition, on September 14 and 15, between 10:00 and 12:00, there will be a photo-video workshop coordinated by the artist Matei Bejenaru, at the headquarters of the Faculty of Arts and Design of the West University of Timișoara.
The exhibition “Community in Solitude” has as its central theme solitude and new forms of being together. In the face of forced isolation and as an immediate response to open aggression, invited artists develop physical and virtual spaces for meeting, dialogue, revolt and reflection. The exhibited works evoke a specific time and environment that marked our collective and individual social existence, altering artistic expressiveness and emotion, often replaced by anxiety and fear.
The participating artists in the exhibition capture through their creations the involvement in different social microcosms, they carry out a subjective analysis of the role of artistic/non-artistic communities in the policy of recovery from the Covid-19 crisis and recent conflicts.
