Laboratorul de creație is a free coaching programme organized within the the GROWASP project, which will be held by Martin Sonderkamp & German Jauregui, as invited by artistic director of 4Culture Association and curator of eXplore festival, Andreea Căpitănescu.

This coaching programme is meant for the artists in order for them to articulate their own ideas which they want to realize or research upon.

Martin Sonderkamp

We will work together in the form of 1 on 1 sessions, collective feedback (orally, written and physical), kitchen talks and discussions. We will furthermore develop an appropriate format for a public presentation to allow each artist to communicate their individual concept, their research and their process of realization.

Martin Sonderkamp came to contemporary dance with a background in sports, visual arts and music. He graduated from the School for New Dance Development in 1995. His own works, soli and collaborations with performers, choreographers, musicians and visual artists, have been shown in Europe and the US. In the field of improvisation, Martin Sonderkamp has performed alongside artists such as Steve Paxton, Katie Duck, Meg Stuart, Nina Martin, Amanda Miller, David Zambrano, Julyen Hamilton, Benoit Lachambre, David Hernandez, KJ Homes, Alexander Baerevoet and many others. His most recent works include Approximations (2015) and Task 14 (2014) , both realized in collaboration with visual artists and film director Darko Dragicevic, the research project Patches(2012-2013) and the exhibition Social Movement (2012).
As a teacher Martin Sonderkamp has worked amongst others at Cullberg Ballet; Sasha Waltz and guests; Pretty Ugly/Ballett Freiburg; The Danish Dance Theatre; SNDO; EDDC/ArtEz Arnhem; SEAD; HZT Berlin; DOCH; Dansehallerne Copenhagen; Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Istanbul; Movement Research, NY; Tanzquartier Wien; CI Festival, Tokyo; Improvisation Festival Seoul. Since 2011 Martin Sonderkamp works as associate professor at the Centre for Contemporary Dance/University for Music and Dance Cologne.

German Jauregui
(Bilbao, Spain 1972)

German Jauregui is a director, choreographer, dancer and pedagogue based in Brussels.

During 10 years (1998-2008) he worked with the company Ultima Vez/Wim Vandekeybus;
as a dancer in the creation and touring of the pieces: “In spite of wishing and wanting” (1999), “Inasmuch as life is borrowed” (2000), ““What the body does not remember” (Revival of 2002), “Blush” (2002), “Sonic Boom” (2003), “Puur” (2005), “Spiegel” (2006), and in the dance films: “In spite of wishing and wanting” (2002), “Blush” (2005), “Here after” (2007), and in the short-films: “The last words “(1999), “Inasmuch…” (2000). He was movement assistance in the pieces “Scratching the inner fields” (2001) and “NieuwZwart” (2009). In 2014 and 2015 he performs in the tour of the piece “What the body does not remember”

He also collaborated with Loïc Touze, Idoia Zabaleta/Moare danza, Eolo Teatro, Deabru Beltza, and participates in the international project Sites of imagination (2007) and in the documentary “Los caminos de la memoria” (2009) directed by Jose Luis Peñafuente.

In 2007 he started to develop his own work with the creation of the solo “Isaac” premiered in the festival Trayectos, Zaragoza (ES), and the duo created with Laura Aris “Y del resto no se nada” premiered in the festival Dias de Danza, Barcelona. In 2009, he created “Sunset on Mars” premiered in Julidans festival, Amsterdam, and in 2013 “Confession” premiered in Tanzhaus-Zurich, Zurich. As a Guess choreographer he creates the pieces “Esbozo” (2010) San Luis de Potosi, Mexico; “Testamento” (2010) Festival EINCE 2010, Guadalajara, Mexico; and “Tres silencios” (2011) for the Spanish company Date Danza, premiered during the FEX festival in Granada, Spain.
In parallel, he teaches seminars and workshops worldwide (Ultima Vez workshops, Impulstanz in Vienne, Atelier de Paris/Carolyn Carlson, Circuit-est in Montreal…).

GROWASP – Ground for Research and Orientation is an intensive programme of education and cultural training in the field of contemporary performative arts, intiated by WASP Studios in partnership with 4Culture Association. The programme includes workshops, special guests, public presentations, feedback sessions, opportunities for abroad training, artistic residencies and access to national and international productions.
