We are pleased to announce the launch of Scenes of (R)evolution, an international collaboration between Romania and Italy, dedicated to contemporary dance and performing arts.
The project is carried out in partnership with Live Arts Cultures, an artistic collective based in Forte Marghera, Venezia Mestre, and is part of the fourth edition, Drop by Drop, of Venere in Teatro – Dance Festival, an international event dedicated to the performing and performing arts sector.
Scenes of (R)evolution aims to encourage cultural exchange through the residency Instrumentalized Bodies by Flavia Giurgiu together with Chiara Cocello (sound and performing artist) and Ida Mallfatti (performer) from Italy, at the contemporary space C32 in Mestre, Venice. The residency will be coordinated by Marianna Andrigo and Aldo Aliprandi, artists and cultural managers of LiveArtsCultures, and will result in an artistic co-production based on sound art and performance.
WASP Studios will participate as a representative of the Romanian independent performative sector at the Venice Dance Biennale from July 18 to August 3, 2024. The artistic director and project coordinator of Scenes of (R)evolution will explore current trends in contemporary dance and performance productions, facilitating the exchange of ideas and best practices between artists and cultural operators through networking sessions in the performing arts and dance sector. The Venice Dance Biennale will provide a valuable platform for these interactions, supporting the development of a future network and the dissemination of Romanian creations in the context of the Venere in Teatro – Dance Festival in September.
Flavia Giurgiu is a performer, choreographer, and actress. Her work is constant and complex, both in the country and abroad. She works in theaters, museums, and independent cultural spaces, where she collaborates with directors, choreographers, and artists of national and international renown. She is the author of her performances and signs the choreography and scenic movement for the shows she works on or performs in. With studies in acting and contemporary dance, her artistic research centers around the diverse possibilities of existing and functioning in contemporary performance space.
The residency Instrumentalized Bodies aims to analyze the tendencies of recovering the memory of space by referring to space C32 which is located in Forte Marghera, in a former military unit, part of the fortified plain of Mestre, an area of historical interest and now promoting artistic production.

About Scenes of (R)evolution
Scenes of (R)evolution is an immersive performance that delves into the intricate journey of self-discovery, memory, and emotional intimacy within a technologically controlled environment. The performance aims to foster connections with ourselves and others, challenging the disturbances of urban life that often hinder deep and genuine interactions. It poses the question: How can control foster unexpected connections and emotional depth?
