San Francisco Dance Film Festival Shorts
WASP – Working Art Space and Production lansează prima serie de proiecții speciale cu cele mai apreciate filme de dans din lume, co-prezentate de festivaluri de profil din Europa și SUA. Filmele sunt prezentate în cadrul inițiativei D.I.M.A.P. (Direcții Inovatoare în Multimedia și Artă Performativă), ca parte a programului de formare profesională GROWASP.
Duminica 22 martie, ora 19:00 are loc prima proiecție de filme, co-prezentată de San Francisco Dance Film Festival. În line-up se regăsesc filme premiate și selectate de S.F. Dance Film Festival, inovatoare atât la nivel de concept, cât și la nivel de estetică și realizare tehnică. Filmele din cadrul acestei proiecții vor fi introduse publicului de coregrafa Simona Deaconescu.
Program:
Filme puternice, narative care ating probleme sociale de fond. Acest calup este dedicat poveștilor spuse pe mai multe straturi, în care sunt expuse întrebări legate de identitate, moralitate și perspectivă duală asupra vieții.

Constant supravegheați de o autoritate superioară, patru muncitori dintr-o fabrică își pierd încrederea unul în altul fără un motiv concret.
Premiat “Honorable Mention” la categoria “Best Screendance Short up to 10 minutes”.
În Guangzhou, China o tânără dansatoare refuză să-și îndeplinească stagiul militar, jonglând între material și abstract pentru a dezbate conceptul de luptă.
Un corporatist îmbrăcat la patru ace renunță la rutina zilnică, descoperind lumea exterioară pentru câteva minute.
Preferatul publicului la categoria “Screendance Matinee”.
Aflându-se la granița dintre inocență și experiență, o mică balerină se clatină între lumină și întuneric, oridine și haos. “9” ne aduce aminte cât de înspăimântătoare ni se pare lumea atunci când începem să nu mai fim copii.
“Freefall” este numele unei companii din Marea Britanie formată numai din dansatori cu deficiențe de învățare. Modalitatea lor unică de a-și imagina lucruri i-a inspirat pe autorii filmului să exploreze noi orizonturi creative.
O dată cu ajungerea la maturitate apare problema identității. Filmul are o poveste cu multe substraturi în care memoria se confundă cu visul și iubirea cu prietenia. Fiecare spectator este liber să-i găsească o interpretare proprie.
Filme inovatoare la nivel de concept și realizare tehnică, la limita dintre dans și act performativ.
O realizare fără precedent bazată pe un proiect comun de cercetare în care 52 de persoane din 25 de țări au filmat câte o secundă dintr-o coregrafie realizată de Bebe Miller.
Premiul pentru cel mai bun montaj.
Cu un statement foarte puternic despre motricitatea și estetica unui corp frumos, braziliencele Rosane Chamecki și Andrea Lerner au filmat o dansatoare de samba în super slow motion. Ceea ce veți vedea vă va schimba cu totul felul în care percepeți corpul în mișcare.

Cum ar fi dacă ar vorbi pantofii pentru tine?
Este oare posibil ca eliminând toate elementele vizuale dintr-un film încă să avem un film. “Amauros” ne provoacă să reconsiderăm imaginarul în dans.
Filme care pun corpul într-o relație puternică cu spațiul fizic și psihologic.

Filmul este o lucrare metaforică despre moartea materiei și ciclul nesfârșit al vieții. Blocurile mari de gheață de pe râul St. Lawrence sunt plimbate de curenții râului iar timpul pare că se scurge după alte coordonate.

Un moment de întâlnire dintre două priviri se transformă într-o poezie a clipei, o buclă temporală în care se întind emoțiile la maximum. Lirismul, tensiunea și neașteptatul unor momente de îmbujorare, de încruntare, de ciocnire accidentală nasc o poveste spusă din interior spre exterior.

Un solo, o cameră goală și o prezență reală, imaginată sau amintită. Imagini de familie, adăpost, închisoare și îmbătrânire construiesc un puzzlle psihologic, expus pe două planuri paralele.

WASP – Working Art Space and Production launches the first series of special screenings with the most appreciated dance films in the world, co-presented by dance film festivals from Europe and USA. The screening are part of I.D.M.P.A. (Innovative Directions in Multimedia and Performing Arts), in the frame of GROWASP – Ground for Research an Education, a program organized by 4culture and WASP-Working Art Space and Production with the purpose of providing new perspectives for the young artists with or without professional studies and the desire to integrate them in the international context of contemporary art development by offering training sessions in fields which are not available in the institutionalized educational system. I.D.M.P.A. is coordinated by choreographer and artistic director Simona Deaconescu.
Sunday March 22, 7 pm, takes place the first dance film screening from the series, co-presented by San Francisco Dance Film Festival. In the line-up you can find films selected and awarded at SFDFF, innovating in matter of concept, aesthetics and technique used.

Shot in Guangzhou, China “Martiality, Not Fighting” follows a young dancer performing the role of conscientious objector. He moves through the pedestrian and the abstract to deliberate the question “to fight or not to fight.”
Ever wanted to do something different? When life becomes a routine, step out of the ordinary and follow your dreams. “Shift” follows a white-collar worker who escapes the confines of his working environment, exploring & dancing freely through the outside world.
Audience Favourite at “Screendance Matinee”
Standing on the threshold between innocence and experience, a young ballerina teeters between light and dark, order and chaos. “9″ is a coming of age tale about the mysterious and sometimes frightening initiations that usher us into our becoming.
Freefall are one of the only companies in the West Midlands, UK that is comprised of performers with learning disabilities. The dancers’ unique imaginations allow choreographers and filmmakers to explore new creative possibilities.
“Intrinsic Moral Evil” seems to be a tale of identity and coming of age. But above all, the dancers play a game with the viewer’s perception: is it a memory, a dream? Is it about losing of friendship? The layered story invites the audience to make its own interpretation.
Innovative and futuristic as a concept and technique used, these films are going to amaze you as they are at the border of dance and performance.
An international crowd-sourced dance-film project, as 54 filmmakers on all seven continents each shoot one second of dance by choreographer Bebe Miller.

In their new video “Samba,” the Brazilians Rosane Chamecki and Andrea Lerner filmed a single samba dancer in extreme slow motion. What you see will change forever the way you perceive the body and it’s motion.

What if your shoes could tell your story for you?
Audio description makes films accessible to visually impaired audiences by describing the visual elements of the work. By removing the visual elements of film, one can conjure an imaginary dance.
These films create a special relationship between the body and the material and psychological space.

This film is a metaphorical piece about death and the perpetual cycle of life. Set along the shores of the St. Lawrence River, the drifting blocks of ice caught in the river’s current represent the flow of time.

Five strangers are gathered in an unwelcoming space, fighting together for a way out, tired by their confused thoughts, trying to regain strength over their altered bodies. The camera bursts into the heart of the dance whilst the music copes with the cruelty and the fever of everyday warfare.

A solo in a bare room conjures another presence—real, imagined, or remembered. Images of family, shelter, entrapment, youth and age collide and fold into one another.
