”Ca artiști, suntem interesate să facem personalul public, folosind mereu corpul și prezența lui ca unelte. Nu mediul este cel care atrage piesele. În 1965, Susan Sontag a spus că stilul este în mesaj. Astăzi, noi credem că mediul este în mesaj. În viețile noastre, trăim mereu în prezent, trecut și viitor. Camera capturează doar prezentul. O reprezentație live, pe de altă parte, există doar în prezent și nu capturează nimic. Pentru fiecare piesa noi decidem care mediu este cel mai potrivit.În acest workshop ne propunem să prezentăm și să discutăm piese sau fragmente ale unor piese care au fost realizate ca instalații, video și/sau performance-uri. Apoi, vom implica cursanții în exerciții de grup pentru a experimenta cu concepte și idei simple precum repetiția, sincronicitatea, opoziția, precum și posibilele utilizări ale camerei. În final, vom discuta avantajele fiecărui mediu de a comunica fiecare idee către public.”

Duo-ul chameckilerner (Rosane Chamecki și Andreea Lerner) este recunoscut ca unul dintre fondatorii tehnicii de manipulare, folosind un vocabular de mișcare complex și articulat, integrat în structuri care definesc o stare psihologică a corpului. Cele două coregrafe sunt într-o căutare de redefinire a modului de mișcare și a felului în care corpul este reprezentat pe scenă. Printre cele mai importante creații ale artistelor se numără “Visible Content”, “Costumes by god” și “Exit”, performance-uri care împreună alcătuiesc o trilogie, focusată pe conceptul de extincție: dizolvarea punctului de atenție a spectatorului, discolcarea corpului, anularea funcțiilor autorului într-un performance. Cele două coregrafe se disting în peisajul american prin mișcarea lor brută, încărcată de fantezie. Atelierul condus de chameckilerner face o introducere în stilul caracteristic interdisciplinar al artistelor implicând arta video, analiză și structuri modulare performative.

Rosane Chamecki și Andreea Lerner sunt coregrafi și artiști video care creează împreună performance-uri, filme de dans și instalații sub pseudonimul de chameckilerner. Colaborează de 15 ani, timp în care au creat 28 de piese cu care au călătorit în turnee internaționale, câștigând aprecierea publicului de specialitate. Originare din Brazilia, cele două artiste au o carieră de succes în New York activând în spații destinate artei contemporane precum: Dance Theater Workshop, The Joyce Theater, The Kitchen, Performance Space 122, Jacob’s Pillow etc. Din 1995 sunt comisionate sa creeze performance-uri, filme de dans și lucrări expoziționale pentru American Dance Festival (Durham, NC) și Central Park SummerStage (New York) sau companii de dans ca Espacio Alterno (Venezuela), Guaira Theater Ballet (Brazilia), the M.A.D. Co. (Finlanda), și the Woo Co. (Danemarca) etc. Ca directori artistici ai CASA HOFFMANN, Centru de Studiu al Mișcării Brazilia, au luat contact prin activitatea lor curatorială cu artști ca Vera Mantero, La Ribot, Thomas Plischke, Sarah Michelson, David Zambrano, Tere O’Connor, John Jasperse, Margarita Guergue, Deborah Hay și Xavier LeRoy. Ca și curatori au avut o strânsă legătură cu Andre Lepecki și Jeremy Wade, organizând întâlniri și discuții critice care vizează identitatea artistică. În 2007 se lansează în lumea filmului de dans cu EXIT, aducându-le prestigiosul premiu Guggenheim Fellowship pentru merite excepționale în trasnscrierea poeziei corporale în film. Al doilea film FLYING LESSON a câștigat printre altele premiul juriului la cel mai mare festival de gen din lume – Dance on Camera Festival la Lincoln Center, New York. Filmul a fost preluat de televiziuni din America, Olanda, Australia și Marea Britanie. Începând cu anul 2009 cele două coregrafe încep să dezvolte lucrări destinate exclusiv galeriilor sub formă de instalații video, precum CONVERSATION WITH BOXING GLOVES BETWEEN CHAMECKI AND LERNER, comisionată de PERFORMA 09 și de San Francisco Museum of Modern Art ca parte a FUTURIST LIFE REDUX, mai târziu instalația fiind preluată de San Francisco MOMA. În prezent trei dintre lucrările lor sunt expuse ca instalații la NYLA (New York Live Arts).

Atelierul face parte din programul de formare profesionala in artele performative contemporane – GROWASP si este organizat de catre Asociatia 4 Culture si WASP – Working Art Space and Production in cadrul Performance Situation Room, activitate din cadrul proiectului Life Long Burning. Cu sprijinul: Programul Cultura al Uniunii Europene.

Performance Situation Room este un model inovativ de cercetare și partajare de cunoștinte unde diferiți actori ai artei discută preocupările și interesele lor. Acesta susține un mediu în care are loc o reformulare dinamică a principalelor aspecte ale practicii artistice. Metoda de lucru variază de la module săptămânale sau lunare, conferințe de weekend, perioade de cercetare de 6 luni cu întâlniri pe Skype până la procese de studiu nomade.

Life Long Burning (LLB) este un proiect dedicat dezvoltării dansului contemporan și performance-ului european, precum și deschiderii acestei arii culturale către public. Programul este implementat pe o perioadă de 5 ani (1 Iulie 2013 – 30 Iunie 2018) printr-o rețea de asociații de dans, companii și case de producție.

“As artists, we are interested in making the personal public, using always the body and its presence as our tools. The medium is not exactly what entices the work. In 1965, Susan Sontag said, the style is in the message. Today, we believe the medium is in the message.
In our lives, we are always living both in the present, the past and the future. The camera captures only the present. A live performance, on the other hand, exists only in the present, and captures nothing. For each piece, we need to decide, which medium is the better one.
In this workshop, we would like to present and discuss pieces or sections of pieces that were made into installations, video and/or performances. Then, we will engage the students in group exercises to experiment with concepts, and simple ideas such as repetition, synchronicity, and opposition, as well as possible uses of the camera. Finally, we will discuss the advantages of each medium to better convey each idea to an audience.”

chameckilerner | ROSANE CHAMECKI and ANDREA LERNER

During their 15 year collaboration between 1992 and 2007, Rosane Chamecki and Andrea Lerner created more than 10 evening length dances that toured internationally to much critical acclaim.
They have been presented by Dance Theater Workshop, The Joyce Theater, The Kitchen, and Performance Space 122 (NYC) and by Portland Institute for Contemporary Art (Portland, OR); Mass MoCA (MA); Diverseworks (Houston, TX), and the Jacob’s Pillow Inside/Out Series (Becket, MA), among others. They have toured extensively throughout Brazil and have been presented at international dance festivals in Canada, Venezuela, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Portugal, The Netherlands, Austria, Germany, Denmark and Finland. They have been commissioned to create new works by the American Dance Festival (Durham, NC) and Central Park SummerStage (New York City) as well as by such dance companies as Espacio Alterno (Venezuela), Guaira Theater Ballet (Brazil), the M.A.D. Co. (Finland), and the Woo Co. (Denmark), as well and the Dance Department of TWU (Texas Woman’s University), TX and University of Illinois, IL.
Committed to international exchange, ChameckiLerner were the Artistic Directors of CASA HOFFMANN, a Center for Movement Studies in Brazil, an influential space devoted to the exploration of new languages and aesthetics in movement from June 2003 until December 2004. During this period, the Center brought international teachers, scholars, thinkers and curators of movement and dance to engage with the local artists and arts community. Among the international artists brought last year were Vera Mantero, La Ribot, Andre Lepecki, Thomas Plischke, Sarah Michelson, David Zambrano, Tere O’Connor, John Jasperse, Margarita Guergue, Deborah Hay, and Xavier LeRoy.
In 2007, they premiered EXIT at The Kitchen in New York City. EXIT marked the beginning of their filmaking career. In 2008, the two were awarded the prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship to support translating their unique visual movement poetry from stage to film.
Together with Minneapolis based filmmaker Phil Harder, chameckilerner’s film career started with the production of the award-winning short FLYING LESSON.
In 2008, FLYING LESSON won the premiered at the of the 36th Dance on Camera Festival at Lincoln Center, New York and won the Jury Award. The summer of 2008 it was awarded Best Experimental Film Award at the Brooklyn International Film Festival and broadcast on Channel 13’s acclaimed REEL NEW YORK series. It also aired on Propeller TV in the UK, SBS in Australia and Cultura TV in the Netherlands. The film continues to play the international film festival circuit and has been sold to art collectors through Roebling Hall Gallery, NY. In 2009, FLYING LESSON received an Honorable Mention in the Experimental Short Film category at the San Joaquin International Film Festival, was part of ROOS ARTS – MEET & CAKE Group show in Rosendale, NY, DISCOVER US! – CARNIVAL WITHIN – AN EXHIBITION MADE IN AMERICA, in Berlin, Germany and THE INVISIBLE DOG art show curated by NO LONGER EMPTY in Brooklyn, NY.
In 2009, the team of Rosane Chamecki, Andrea Lerner and Phil Harder together with producer Tanja Meding filmed two shorts, titled THE LINE and THE COLLECTION, during a residency at the WATERMILL CENTER, Robert Wilson’s international, multi-disciplinary center for studies in the arts and humanities in Watermill, New York. THE COLLECTION premiered at New York Live Arts (NYLA) show in October 2012, and THE LINE is currently in post production.
That same year, they completed two more short films: CONVERSATION WITH BOXING GLOVES BETWEEN CHAMECKI AND LERNER, commissioned by PERFORMA 09 and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art as part of the FUTURIST LIFE REDUX film project. The short screened at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) on October 18 and premiered in NY on Monday, November 16, 2009 at Anthology Film Archives.
JACKIE & JUDY, an ode to Norman McLaren’s PAS DE DEUX, a 4 min. black and white short film premiered at the 38th DANCE ON CAMERA FESTIVAL at Lincoln Center January, 31 2010 and was awarded a PEARL at the Pool 2010 Festival in Berlin, Germany.
Both films are currently screening on the international film festival circuit.
Starting last October three of their video works, FLYING LESSON, BOXING and THE COLLECTION are on display as a video installation at NYLA.

With the support of Culture Programme of the European Union.

The Performance Situation Room is an innovative research and knowledge-sharing model where various arts players discuss their concerns and interests. It stands for an environment where a dynamic reformulation of main issues in art practice is undertaken. The working method ranges from weekly or monthly modules, long weekend conferences, 6-month research period with Skype meetings to nomadic study processes.

Life Long Burning (LLB) is a project supported by the Culture Programme of the European Union and dedicated to the sustainable support of the European contemporary dance and performance field and the enlargement of its audience. It is implemented throughout a five-year period (July 1, 2013 – June 30, 2018) by a wide-spread and highly professional network of dance associations, companies and production houses.
