Born in Norway, Mette Edvardsen currently works and lives in Brussels. She was a dancer in Les Ballet C. De la B. for several years and has as such been working with choreographers like Hans Van den Broeck and Christine de Smedt. She created and produced two pieces in collaboration with Lilia Mestre (P/B), and the project Sauna in Exile in collaboration with Heine R. Avdal, Liv Hanne Haugen and Lawrence Malstaf. She choreographed and danced for a version of Thomas Lehmen’s Schreibstück together with Christine de Smedt and Mårten Spångberg in 2004.
Her work is situated within the performing arts field, also exploring other media or other formats such as video and books. She has worked with repetition as a strategy, as a way to work with details and a quite complex scene. By repeating it several times, it was possible for the scene to unfold and for things to be seen. For her it is a way of activating things. She is not interested in things in themselves, but the fact that we are interested in them. She is also interested in how situations leave traces in the memory, and how memory becomes an active part of our reading of something.
